How we score

The Stanza Score is STANZA's own editorial index — one whole number from 0 to 100 per hotel, computed from public evidence by the same rules for every hotel. It is not a guest review and not a third-party award; it is our reading of the documented facts, with the reasons one click from the number.

Methodology 0.3.0 · index computed October 2026

Five commitments

Complete
Every hotel in the collection carries a score, a provisional score or an honest “Score pending” — never a gap and never a placeholder. A number appears only when the public evidence is sufficient.
With evidence
Every category shows its “why”: documented facts from public sources, with the awarding body named and the date of the fact. The full evidence sits one click from the number on every hotel page.
Without commission
STANZA may earn a commission on bookings; commercial terms never affect a score. No hotel pays for placement or score, and no score is recomputed at a hotel's request.
Relevant
Each hotel is scored against the standard of its own type — city hotel, beach resort, mountain resort, countryside retreat or integrated resort. Service weighs most everywhere, and a weak Service score caps the overall score.
Correctable
A hotel may request the correction of any fact. Facts are re-read and the score recomputed by the same rules; the number itself is never negotiated.

What the number means

A whole number from 0 to 100, in four bands: Exceptional from 90, Outstanding from 80 to 89, Excellent from 70 to 79 and Notable below 70. Every hotel in the collection already meets the five-star or four-star standard of its tier — the score reads the differences within that tier. No decimals, no numbered rankings, no arrows.

A score is published when the evidence is solid, provisional when it is still thin or the hotel opened less than a year ago, and pending — no number — when there is not enough public evidence yet.

What we read

Third-party credentials, cited as facts with the awarding body and the date; and the hotel's own official site, read where its robots.txt allows.

Never: guest reviews from portals or social networks, private data, or a hotel's own marketing claims.

STANZA does not inspect hotels and does not publish consumer reviews.

STANZA's own editorial index, from an AI-assisted reading of public sources: software extracts the facts, and code computes every number by the same rules for every hotel.

What weighs most, by type of hotel

The categories are the same for every hotel — Service, Rooms & Suites, Location & Setting, Dining & Bars, Spa & Wellness — but their weight depends on the type of hotel. We publish the order, not the figures.

When we recompute

A third-party credential counts until its next edition, and a fact from the official site for six months. A renovation, a rebranding, a closure or an opening sets the hotel to pending until it is recomputed, and evidence past its date drops to pending at the next recomputation. A published score changes only when it moves by two points or more, or changes band.

How we rank

Five-star hotels first, then STANZA's editorial order. Sorting by Stanza Score orders hotels within their tier by score; scores are comparable across hotel types. Service weighs most; the other weights depend on the type of hotel. A weak Service score caps the overall score. No hotel pays for placement or score.
