Sedona and its houses on the red rock
Sedona's red rock stands in three settings and the houses follow them. Boynton Canyon, seven miles west of town on the Yavapai's ancestral land, holds the resort of adobe casitas at the canyon's mouth and, beside it, the adults-only spa that is the top-rated house in Arizona. Oak Creek runs below Uptown between sycamores and cliffs, with cottages on its bank and the galleries five minutes up the hill. West Sedona, along the highway, is the trailhead side of town and the darkest sky, where forty glass atriums look out at the panorama by day and the stars by night. Spring and autumn are the seasons; the summer brings the monsoon and the winter a dusting of snow on the rock.

The neighborhoods
Boynton Canyon
The box canyon seven miles west of town, one of Sedona's vortexes, with the red rock at its closest. It lies on the Yavapai's ancestral land, a few degrees cooler than Uptown, with the trail into the canyon, the golf of Seven Canyons and two houses at its mouth.
Oak Creek & Uptown
The creek below Uptown between sycamores and cliffs, with the cottages on its bank. The galleries and shops of Uptown are five minutes up the hill; the zone also takes in Tlaquepaque's courtyards and Oak Creek Canyon, north to Slide Rock and the road to Flagstaff.
West Sedona
The town along the highway west of the Y, with trailheads at the door and the darkest sky in Sedona. The trailheads are Adobe Jack, Thunder Mountain and Soldier Pass; the restaurants and markets are on 89A; and that sky is for the stargazing the town is known for.
Good to know
Which are the five-star hotels in Sedona?
One. The five-star house we list in Sedona is Mii amo, the adults-only destination spa in Boynton Canyon that takes guests on all-inclusive Journeys of three to ten nights. Beside it we keep three four-star addresses, each listed exactly at the tier it holds: Enchantment Resort, the adobe casitas on seventy acres at the mouth of the same canyon; L'Auberge de Sedona, the cottages with fireplaces on the bank of Oak Creek below Uptown; and Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel, the forty glass atriums at the Adobe Jack trailhead in West Sedona.
Where to stay — Boynton Canyon, Oak Creek or West Sedona?
Boynton Canyon for the red rock at its closest and a resort or a spa that never needs the car, seven miles west of town; Oak Creek for the water, the sycamores and the galleries of Uptown five minutes up the hill; West Sedona for the trails from the door, the restaurants of the highway and the darkest sky in town. Everything is within a quarter of an hour of everything else; Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock lie south, on the road to the Village of Oak Creek.
When is the best time to visit Sedona?
March to May and September to November — warm days, cool nights and the red rock at its clearest, with the busiest weekends in October. The summer is hot, with afternoon monsoon storms in July and August that clear the air and the crowds; the winter is mild by day and cold at night, with an occasional snowfall on the rock that is worth the trip in itself. The houses in the canyon and on the creek run a few degrees cooler than town.
How do you get around Sedona?
Phoenix Sky Harbor is about two hours by road through the Verde Valley; Flagstaff, up Oak Creek Canyon, is under an hour. A car is the way to reach the trailheads, the Village of Oak Creek and the Grand Canyon for a day; in town, Uptown and Tlaquepaque are walkable from the creek, and the houses arrange airport transfers on request.
How do I reserve a stay?
Search your dates on the hotel's page to see reference rates, then send the concierge a request. The concierge confirms exact rates and availability with you before anything is booked, and any payment and its timing are set out before you confirm.
