Bali and its twenty-one houses
Bali keeps its luxury in four landscapes, from the Ayung valley to the Bukit cliffs. They are the Ayung river valley and the highlands around Ubud, where the houses sit among rice terraces and rainforest; the limestone cliffs of Uluwatu and the hillside above Jimbaran Bay on the Bukit peninsula; the beach of Nusa Dua with its estates; and the surf coast of Seminyak and Canggu. One house stands alone on the east-coast cliffs. We list twenty-one houses, each one written at exactly the tier it holds, with a concierge behind every stay.

Nusa Dua
The gated beach of Nusa Dua and Sawangan, the island's most sheltered address, with a calm sea. It lies on the east side of the Bukit: the estates, with their butlers and lagoon pools, and the golf course.
Seminyak & Canggu
The surf coast north of Kuta, with the beach clubs, the sunsets and the island's night. Here lie Petitenget beach and the restaurants of Seminyak, Echo Beach and the rice fields of Canggu.
East Bali — Manggis
The east coast, an hour and a half from the south, with one house on its own bay. Its cliffs and bays are those of Manggis and Candidasa, with Mount Agung behind them, the temple of Besakih and the water palaces.

Which part of Bali should I stay in?
Ubud and the highlands for the rice terraces, the river and the temples, an hour and a half from the airport. Uluwatu and Jimbaran for the cliffs, the surf and the sunsets, twenty minutes from the airport. Nusa Dua for a calm beach and the estates. Seminyak and Canggu for the restaurants, the beach clubs and the surf. Manggis, on the east coast, for a bay of its own, an hour and a half from the south.
When is the best season for Bali?
April to October is the dry season, with July, August and the year-end holidays as the high season; the rains run from November to March, heaviest in January and February, with short afternoon downpours and the lowest rates. Nyepi, the day of silence in March, closes the island – and its airport – for a day, and the houses ask their guests to stay in.
How do you get to Bali – and do I need a visa?
Ngurah Rai International Airport at Denpasar serves the whole island: twenty minutes to Jimbaran and Nusa Dua, forty to Seminyak, an hour and a half to Ubud or Manggis. Most visitors buy a visa on arrival or online for a short stay; the rule changes, so check it before you fly. The houses arrange the transfer and a driver for the days out.
How do I reserve a stay?
Search your dates on the hotel's page to see reference rates, then send the concierge a request. The concierge confirms exact rates and availability with you before anything is booked, and any payment and its timing are set out before you confirm.
