Which side of Los Cabos should I stay on?
The Tourist Corridor and San José del Cabo hold eleven of the fifteen – the coves at Palmilla, Chileno Bay, Santa María Bay and Cabo del Sol, the dunes and marina of Puerto Los Cabos, and San José's older streets a few minutes from any of them. Cabo San Lucas and Pedregal hold the other four – Esperanza on the Punta Ballena cliffs a few minutes east of town, and the Pacific side beyond the marina, where Pedregal's private tunnel, Nobu's beach and The Cape's surf break at Monuments Beach face the open ocean. Choose the Corridor for swimmable water and quiet; choose Cabo San Lucas when you want El Arco, the marina and the town within minutes of the room.
When is the best season for Los Cabos?
November through May – dry days, a warm sea and cool desert nights, with the humpback whales in the water from about December through April. June and July run hot and bright. August through October is the hurricane season on this coast, quieter and softer, and worth a look at the forecast before you commit; the concierge will tell you what the weather has been doing that week.
Can I swim in the sea at these hotels?
At some of them, and it matters here – much of this coast, and all of the Pacific side, carries surf and currents that keep the beaches for walking rather than swimming. The Corridor's swimmable coves are where the collection's water is: Palmilla below One&Only, Chileno Bay under the Auberge resort of the same name, Santa María Bay at Montage, the cove at Four Seasons Cabo Del Sol, the beach at Hilton Los Cabos, and Esperanza's two private coves on Punta Ballena. On the Pacific side the plunge pools at Waldorf Astoria Pedregal and the surf at The Cape's Monuments Beach are the point – the ocean there is for looking at, surfing and sunsets.
