- Charles Keating's 250-acre resort opened on October 1, 1988, designed by Killingsworth, Stricker, Lindgren, Wilson & Associates, with Carrara marble floors and a 24-karat-gold-etched ceiling in the lobby.
- 643 guest rooms including 119 casitas and 62 suites; 585 of them were redesigned in the 2016 to 2019 transformation, the largest since the resort opened.
- J&G Steakhouse by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Mowry & Cotton, The Phoenician Tavern and the Thirsty Camel lounge.
- A three-story spa with a rooftop pool, the Phoenician Athletic Club, and the 18-hole Phoenician Golf Club as reconfigured by Phil Smith and reopened in November 2018 – the hotel and its spa both hold four-star standing, a tier below the Canyon Suites enclave on the same grounds.
