A sense of the place

Morning over Canal Ring & Centrum

Why it's in the collection

Because the city's oldest hotel site, on the Amstel at the Nieuwe Doelenstraat, is the Doelen where Rembrandt's Night Watch first hung, restored and reopened by Tivoli – and it holds four-star standing, listed at exactly the tier it holds.

  • On the Amstel at the Nieuwe Doelenstraat, the oldest hotel site in Amsterdam; a Tivoli Hotels & Resorts house of Minor.
  • The Doelen – the hall of the civic guard for which Rembrandt painted the Night Watch, where the picture first hung; reopened after restoration.
  • Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection; holds four-star standing.

The neighborhood

First light over Canal Ring & Centrum

Canal Ring & Centrum

The three great canals and the old center at their core – home to five of the six hotels. The Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht were dug in the 17th century around the Singel and have been a World Heritage site since 2010. At the core stand Dam Square and the Royal Palace, with the Flower Market on the Singel; the Nine Streets and the Jordaan lie to the west, Rembrandtplein and the Amstel to the south-east.

  • The Amstel and the Muntplein, at the door.
  • Rembrandtplein, across the river, a few minutes' walk.
  • The Kloveniersburgwal, the old university quarter and the Oude Kerk, a short walk north.
