Shangri-La, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi
Shangri-La · Grand Canal & Khor Al Maqta · Abu Dhabi
A sense of the place
Why it's in the collection
Because an Arabian village on the Khor Al Maqta channel looks straight at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with abras running its own canal to the souk – and Shangri-La holds it to four-star standing, listed at exactly the tier it holds.
- An Arabian-village resort on the Khor Al Maqta channel, facing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque across the water; a Shangri-La hotel.
- Abras along the resort's own canal to the Souk Qaryat Al Beri; a private beach on the channel; pools and gardens; CHI, The Spa.
- Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star 2026 for the hotel.
The neighborhood
Grand Canal & Khor Al Maqta
The channel between the island and the mainland, facing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with two of the eleven hotels. The mosque's white domes rise on the far bank, and the Maqta and Mussafah bridges cross the channel, the Bain Al Jessrain quarter between the two. Around the channel lie the Qaryat Al Beri complex with its souk and canals, the Grand Canal along the shore and the mangroves of the eastern lagoons; the airport is fifteen minutes away.
- The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, across the channel.
- The Souk Qaryat Al Beri, at the end of the canal.
- Zayed International Airport, about fifteen minutes by car.
