Nine Shangri-La hotels are in the Stanza collection, in eight destinations. Three hold five-star standing: Prince Roland Bonaparte's mansion of 1896 at the Trocadéro, with the Eiffel Tower in most windows; floors 34 to 52 of The Shard in London, with the city's highest infinity pool; and a tower on University Avenue in Toronto. Six are four-star addresses, labeled as such — two in Hong Kong and one each in Tokyo, Bangkok, Istanbul and Abu Dhabi, where the house is an Arabian village on the Khor Al Maqta channel facing the Grand Mosque. Shangri-La Paris lives in the mansion Prince Roland Bonaparte built in 1896 at the Trocadéro, the Eiffel Tower in the window of most rooms; the London house takes floors 34 to 52 of The Shard, with the city's highest infinity pool; Island Shangri-La hangs a sixteen-story silk painting in its atrium and puts Restaurant Petrus on its top floor; and the Abu Dhabi house is an Arabian village on the Khor Al Maqta channel, facing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with abras along its own canal to the souk.
When are the Shangri-La houses at their best?
Abu Dhabi in its winter, from October to April, and Bangkok in its cool season, from November to February. Hong Kong is clearest from October to December; Tokyo fills for the cherry blossom in late March and early April and has its clearest skies in October and November; Toronto's season runs from May to October.
