A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because a palace built in 2005 stands on 1.3 kilometers of its own beach at the western end of the Corniche, 394 rooms and suites under its domes – and Mandarin Oriental, at the helm since January 2020, holds it to five-star standing.

  • Opened in 2005 at the western end of the Corniche, on 1.3 kilometers of private beach and its own gardens; managed by Mandarin Oriental since January 2020.
  • 394 rooms and suites under the palace's domes; pools and the beach facing the Gulf; the spa.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star 2026 for the hotel; holds five-star standing.

The neighborhood

First light over Corniche & Al Maryah Island

Corniche & Al Maryah Island

The north-western shore of the island and the financial island off its eastern end, with six of the eleven hotels. Along that shore runs the eight-kilometer promenade of the Corniche, with its public beach and cycle path; Emirates Palace, Qasr Al Watan and the Etihad Towers stand at its western end, the Al Bateen marina behind them. The Founder's Memorial rises at the head of the promenade, the Heritage Village sits out on the breakwater, and Al Maryah Island holds The Galleria, the towers of the financial district and the waterfront walk.

  • Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace, next door.
  • The Etihad Towers, across the road.
  • The Corniche and its promenade, running east from the gates.
