A sense of the place

Golden hour over The Luberon: Gordes & Bonnieux

Why it's in the collection

Because a bastide of the sixteenth century sits at the very top of the village of Gordes with the whole Luberon valley below its terrace – forty rooms and suites, a Guerlain spa inspired by Sénanque Abbey and a pool on the terrace – and the house holds five-star standing, the only one in Provence distinguished by both guides at their highest level.

  • A sixteenth-century bastide at the top of the hilltop village of Gordes, looking across the Luberon valley; an Airelles Collection house with the Palace distinction since 2016.
  • 34 rooms and six suites; the Airelles Spa by Guerlain, inspired by Sénanque Abbey; a pool on the terrace; La Table de La Bastide and a Ladurée tea room in the village.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star 2026 for the hotel, with Three MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection; holds five-star standing.

The Luberon: Gordes & Bonnieux

The massif and the valley between the Monts de Vaucluse and the Durance hold four of the fourteen hotels. They take in Gordes on its rock with Sénanque Abbey in the fold below, the ocher cliffs of Roussillon, Joucas and Gargas above the vines, Bonnieux, Lacoste and Ménerbes along the northern face, Lourmarin and Lauris on the southern one, and the Friday market at Lourmarin.

  • The village of Gordes and its Tuesday market, at the door.
  • Sénanque Abbey and its lavender, in the fold below the village.
  • Roussillon and its ocher cliffs, a short drive east.
