Seven Fairmont hotels are in the Stanza collection, in seven destinations. Two are grand dames: The Savoy, opened in 1889 on the Strand with the Thames at its back, and the Vier Jahreszeiten on the Neuer Jungfernstieg, at Hamburg's Inner Alster. The other five range from two beach houses in the Gulf — on the trunk of the Palm in Dubai and on the Maqta channel opposite Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — to a house under seven domes in Riyadh, a golf resort facing the Atlas outside Marrakech and a ski-in, ski-out castle at the foot of Blackcomb in Whistler. Two hold five-star standing; five are four-star addresses, labeled as such. Each hotel page shows reference rates for your dates, and the concierge confirms exact rates and availability before anything is booked.
Good to know
Where are the Fairmont houses of the collection, from the Strand to Blackcomb?
In seven destinations. In Europe: London, where The Savoy stands on the Strand between Covent Garden and the Embankment, and Hamburg, on the Neuer Jungfernstieg at the Inner Alster. In the Gulf: Dubai, on the western shore of the Palm's trunk, facing Dubai Marina across the water; Abu Dhabi, on the Khor Al Maqta channel at the Maqta Bridge; and Riyadh, at Business Gate in Qurtubah, in the north of the city on the airport road. In North Africa: Marrakech, toward the Agafay foothills, about thirty minutes from Jemaa el-Fna. In Canada: British Columbia, at the foot of Blackcomb in Whistler.
Which Fairmont houses here are grand dames, and what are the others?
The Savoy and the Vier Jahreszeiten, the two that hold five-star standing. The Savoy opened in 1889 on the Strand and keeps the American Bar and Gordon Ramsay's Savoy Grill; the Vier Jahreszeiten has set the standard of hotel elegance in Hamburg since the late nineteenth century, with rooms over the lake or the courtyard. The others are four-star addresses, labeled as such: Fairmont The Palm and Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, each with a beach of its own; Fairmont Riyadh, with 298 rooms under seven Islamic-inspired domes and the Fairmont Gold lounge floors; Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, with villas, penthouses, a great heated pool and an eighteen-hole course; and Fairmont Chateau Whistler, with its beamed lobby, its fireplaces and the lifts at the door.
When is each Fairmont house at its best?
Chateau Whistler in the ski season, from late November into spring, with the deepest snow from January to March — or from June to September, when the same mountains open for hiking, biking and golf; the three Gulf houses in the winter, from late October to April in Dubai, from October to April in Abu Dhabi and from October to March in Riyadh; the Royal Palm from October to May, with snow on the Atlas from December to February; the Vier Jahreszeiten from May to September on the Alster, or in December for the Christmas markets on the Rathausmarkt; and The Savoy in late spring and early autumn, or from November, when the lights of Regent Street carry London to Christmas. Each destination page carries its note on the best months, and the concierge advises on dates for a specific hotel.
