A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because the curhaus of 1899 on the Zürichberg was rebuilt by Norman Foster around an art collection and a spa, with the city and the lake laid out below – and the house holds five-star standing.

  • Opened in 1899 as a curhaus on the Zürichberg, above the city; rebuilt by Norman Foster; independent.
  • An art collection through the house, a spa and, from the terrace, the city, the lake and, on clear days, the Alps; the Dolderbahn from Römerhof at the door.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star 2026 for the hotel; holds five-star standing.

The neighborhood

First light over Dolder & Zürichberg

Dolder & Zürichberg

The wooded hill above the city to the east, with one of the six hotels. The Dolderbahn climbs from Römerhof to the golf course and the ice rink at the top; Zoo Zürich and its Masoala hall lie a little further along the ridge, and the forest paths of the Zürichberg cross the hill. From the terrace the view takes in the city, the lake and, on clear days, the Alps.

  • The Dolderbahn from Römerhof, at the door.
  • The golf course and the ice rink of the Dolder, on the hill beside the hotel.
  • Zoo Zürich and its Masoala hall, a few minutes along the ridge by car.
