The avenue runs from the main station to Bürkliplatz, with Paradeplatz and the banks along the way. On the left bank stand the Lindenhof, St. Peter and the Fraumünster with its Chagall windows; on the right, the Grossmünster and the lanes of the Niederdorf; between the avenue and the river, the Rennweg and the Augustinergasse.

Along it lie the Seebad Utoquai on its jetty, the Chinese Garden and the Pavillon Le Corbusier by the water and the quays where the steamers leave for Rapperswil, with the streets of the Seefeld behind, toward Tiefenbrunnen.
