A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection
Because it has been the ranch of the Santa Barbara foothills since 1893 – an independent grand dame of four-star standing where breakfast, lunch and dinner come with the cottage and the Kennedys spent their honeymoon.
- 900 San Ysidro Lane in the foothills of Montecito – founded as a guest ranch in 1893 on a former Spanish land grant, run by the actor Ronald Colman with Alvin Weingand from the 1930s, owned by Ty Warner since 2000 and rebuilt after the January 2018 Montecito debris flow.
- Winston Churchill stayed in 1912, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh married here in 1940, and John and Jacqueline Kennedy honeymooned here in 1953 – the Churchill Cottage and the 2,700-square-foot Kennedy Cottage carry their names.
- 38 individually decorated cottages with outdoor rain showers and private hot tubs, from the 1,450-square-foot Churchill Cottage to the 6,000-square-foot Warner Cottage with its own pool.
- Stonehouse, in a nineteenth-century citrus packing house, keeps a cellar of some 15,500 bottles with the only complete Château Pétrus vertical in the United States; Plow & Angel, The Veranda, The Speakeasy and the Plunge Pool Bar complete it – and a full breakfast, lunch and two-course dinner come with every stay.
