A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because the Polo Lounge, the bungalows and the pink stucco are not nostalgia here – they are still the working parts of the hotel.

  • Opened in May 1912 to a design by architect Elmer Grey; the pink stucco earned it the name the Pink Palace.
  • Paul Revere Williams added the Crescent Wing in 1949 and reworked the Polo Lounge, the Fountain Coffee Room and the lobby.
  • The Polo Lounge with live piano jazz, the 1950s-style Fountain Coffee Room, the poolside Cabana Cafe and Bar Nineteen12 – with five new Ken Fulk-designed venues, including a 94-seat supper club, arriving in fall 2026.
  • Twelve acres of gardens with 21 private bungalows, plus the Presidential and Crescent suites; Howard Hughes and Marilyn Monroe were long-term guests.
