A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because César Ritz opened it on Piccadilly in 1906 and the house – the Ritz Restaurant with its three MICHELIN stars, tea in the Palm Court – is still independent, and holds four-star standing, listed at exactly the tier it holds.

  • Opened by César Ritz in 1906 on Piccadilly; independent, owned by the Ellerman family.
  • The Ritz Restaurant holds three MICHELIN stars; afternoon tea in the Palm Court. Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star 2026 for the hotel.

Mayfair & Marylebone

The streets between Oxford Street and Piccadilly, with Hyde Park to the west – home to fifteen of the forty-three hotels. Park Lane runs along that western edge; inside the quarter lie Grosvenor and Berkeley Squares, with Bond Street and Mount Street for the shops and galleries. Regent Street and Savile Row are to the east, Marylebone High Street and Portland Place to the north.

  • Green Park, at the back door.
  • St James's Street and its clubs, across Piccadilly.
  • Bond Street and the Royal Academy, a few minutes' walk.
