A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because a Ritz-Carlton estate in the hills of Sintra, about thirty minutes from Lisbon, keeps a 14th-century monastery, a championship golf course and two MICHELIN-starred restaurants – and it holds five-star standing here.

  • An estate in the Sintra-Cascais natural park, about thirty minutes from Lisbon, around a monastery of the 14th century; a Ritz-Carlton hotel.
  • A championship golf course, and two MICHELIN-starred restaurants – LAB by Sergi Arola and Midori; Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star 2026 for the hotel.
  • Three MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection, one of two in Portugal – on which it holds five-star standing here.

The neighborhood

First light over Cascais, Estoril & Sintra

Cascais, Estoril & Sintra

The coast half an hour west of the city and the hills of Sintra behind it, with two of the four hotels. Along the Marginal and the railway from Cais do Sodré come the casino of Estoril and its gardens and the beach of Tamariz, then the bay and old town of Cascais, with the Boca do Inferno and Guincho beach beyond. The hills lie inside the Sintra-Cascais natural park: the Pena Palace, the Moorish castle, Quinta da Regaleira and Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe.

  • The palaces of Sintra – Pena, the Moorish castle, Quinta da Regaleira – a short drive into the hills.
  • Cascais and the sea, down the road to the south.
  • Cabo da Roca and Guincho beach, across the natural park to the west.
