A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because Pardal Monteiro's Ritz of 1959 stands above Parque Eduardo VII with a running track on its roof and a collection of Portuguese modern art through the house – and Four Seasons holds it to five-star standing.

  • Pardal Monteiro's Ritz, opened in 1959 on the high ground above Parque Eduardo VII; a Four Seasons hotel.
  • A running track on the roof, and a collection of Portuguese modern art through the house; Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star 2026 for the hotel – the first in Portugal; holds five-star standing.

The neighborhood

Golden hour over Avenida da Liberdade & Marquês de Pombal

Avenida da Liberdade & Marquês de Pombal

The tree-lined avenue of the 1880s that climbs from the Baixa to the Marquês de Pombal, with one of the four hotels. It starts at the Restauradores and ends at the roundabout of the Marquês de Pombal, with Parque Eduardo VII rising above it and the shops of the avenue under the plane trees. The Rossio and the grid of the Baixa lie at its foot, and the Gulbenkian museum and its garden are a short walk north.

  • Parque Eduardo VII, at the door.
  • Marquês de Pombal and the top of the Avenida da Liberdade, a few minutes' walk down the hill.
  • The Gulbenkian museum and its garden, a short walk north.
