Two live in landmarks — six seventeenth- and eighteenth-century canal palaces on Amsterdam's Herengracht, joined around a private garden, and the Romanesque Old Post Office of 1899 on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington — and the others range from an Art Deco-inspired tower at Wilshire and Santa Monica to a hideaway reached through a private tunnel at Pedregal, where every room has a plunge pool, and three islands in South Malé Atoll. Five hold five-star standing; five are four-star addresses, labeled as such. Two are historic: six canal palaces of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries on the Herengracht in Amsterdam, joined around a private garden, and the Old Post Office in Washington, Romanesque Revival, built from 1892 to 1899 and a Waldorf Astoria since 2022, with a spa in the former mailroom beneath the clock tower. Peacock Alley, the Waldorf Astoria salon, is named on the pages of five houses: Washington; Orlando, where it is the lobby lounge; the DIFC and Palm houses in Dubai; and Bangkok.
