Eight Peninsula hotels are in the Stanza collection, one in each of eight destinations. The founding house has faced Victoria Harbour from Salisbury Road since 1928, with its fleet of Rolls-Royces and afternoon tea in the lobby; the others run from the Gotham Hotel of 1905 on Fifth Avenue and the Majestic of 1908 on Avenue Kléber to Chicago's house of 2001, whose winged plan echoes Hong Kong's, the London flagship of 2023 at Hyde Park Corner and four buildings on Istanbul's Galataport quay. Six hold five-star standing; two are four-star addresses, labeled as such: Paris and Istanbul. In eight destinations, one house in each. In Asia: Hong Kong, on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront; Tokyo, facing Hibiya Park at the edge of Ginza; and Bangkok, on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya. In the United States: New York, on Fifth Avenue, and Chicago, beside the Water Tower on Michigan Avenue. In Europe: London, at Hyde Park Corner; Paris, on Avenue Kléber between the Étoile and the Trocadéro; and Istanbul, on the Galataport waterfront at Karaköy.
Which Peninsula houses here are in historic buildings?
Four: the founding house in Hong Kong, open since 1928 on Salisbury Road, facing the harbor and the Star Ferry pier; the 1905 Italian Renaissance landmark in New York, originally the Gotham Hotel; the Majestic of 1908 in Paris, reopened as The Peninsula in 2014, with L'Oiseau Blanc on the roof; and in Istanbul, four buildings on the Galataport quay, the old passenger terminal among them. Chicago's was built in 2001, a 20-story building whose winged plan echoes The Peninsula Hong Kong, and London's opened in 2023 as the brand's flagship there.
When are the Peninsula houses at their best?
Hong Kong is clearest from October to December; Tokyo fills for the cherry blossom in late March and early April and has its clearest skies in October and November; Bangkok's high season is the cool, dry stretch from November to February. New York is at its best from late April through June and from September into early December; Chicago from late spring to early autumn, and in winter the spa terrace becomes an ice rink; London, Paris and Istanbul in spring and early autumn.
