In three destinations, one house in each. London: on Portland Place, at the top of Regent Street, a short walk from Marylebone High Street, with Regent's Park up the road. Chicago: at 330 North Wabash, on the river, a block from the Wrigley Building and the start of the Magnificent Mile, with the Loop across the water. Java: in Jakarta, inside the District 8 development in the Sudirman Central Business District.
Which Langham house here came first, and what does each keep?
London came first: opened in 1865, it is Europe's first grand hotel and the flagship of Langham Hospitality Group, with Artesian, its bar, and the Chuan Spa. Chicago, opened in 2013 in the former IBM Building, has 316 rooms, Travelle Kitchen + Bar with interiors by David Rockwell, a Chuan Spa drawing on Traditional Chinese Medicine beside a 67-foot indoor pool, and more than 140 works of art; Jakarta, the first Langham in Southeast Asia, keeps Tom Aikens's European restaurant and T'ang Court, an outpost of the Cantonese dining room of The Langham, Hong Kong.
When is each Langham house at its best?
Chicago from late spring through early fall, with June to September the warmest and fullest months and October bringing clear, cool days and the marathon; London in late spring and early autumn, or from November, when the lights of Regent Street, at the foot of Portland Place, carry the city to Christmas; and Jakarta the year round — hot and humid, quietest in the Ramadan and Eid weeks, with the rains from November to March.
