Because it is the one five-star hotel we list in Washington – the first Four Seasons in the United States, on the edge of Georgetown.

  • Opened in October 1979 at 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill – Four Seasons' first hotel in the United States.
  • Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, whose Bourbon Lounge reopened on August 15, 2026 after a full redesign.
  • A three-story spa and fitness center with an indoor lap pool, reopened on May 1, 2024 after a top-to-bottom transformation.
  • 222 rooms, with ten suites added in 2024; the Royal Suite – the largest in the city – has a private terrace over 29th Street, its own exercise room and a media room, and the art collection includes Warhol, Fernando Botero and Helen Frankenthaler.

Georgetown

The oldest quarter of the city, with Federal rowhouses, M Street's shops and three of the ten hotels. The C&O Canal and the Potomac lie at the bottom of the hill. One hotel stands at the Pennsylvania Avenue end, one on the canal and one in the old incinerator on the waterfront.
