A sense of the place
Why it's in the collection
Because winter tourism in the Alps began here in 1864, and the house still keeps the Cresta Run and the rink of the 1928 and 1948 Winter Games at its door – four-star standing, listed at exactly the tier it holds.
- Opened in 1864 at the top of the Dorf, where Johannes Badrutt's wager brought the first winter guests to the Alps; independent – 'Switzerland's most iconic winter hotel' by its own description.
- The Cresta Run and the Olympic ice rink of the 1928 and 1948 Winter Games at the door; open for the winter season – 4 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, as the house announces it – and for a summer season, and closed between them; the concierge confirms the dates.
- Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star 2026 for the hotel.

The village on its terrace above the lake, at 1,800 meters, with all three hotels. Via Serlas and its shops, the leaning tower of the old church of St. Mauritius and the Segantini Museum stand here; the funicular to Chantarella and Corviglia leaves from the top of the village, the Cresta Run drops beside the Kulm toward Celerina, and the lake below freezes in winter for the polo and the White Turf.
- The Cresta Run and the Kulm rink, at the door.
- The funicular to Corviglia and Via Serlas, a few minutes down through the village.
- The Segantini Museum, a quarter of an hour on foot along the hill.
