Londolozi Game Reserve
Sabi Sand Game Reserve · Sabi Sand & Kruger
A sense of the place
Why it's in the collection
Because long before the word eco-lodge existed the Varty family built it on a bend of the Sand River, in 1926, and it became the original blueprint for the luxury safari camp — wild, soulful, sustainable and purposefully ahead of its time — with five lodges that feel more like a village of thatched roofs, dolerite stone and soft linen, stories passed down through generations, game drives that follow leopard tracks through the grass and evenings that return to open-air dinners — few places in Africa feel this deeply lived in.
- On the Sand River in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, unfenced to the Kruger; independent house.
- Five lodges in a village of thatch and stone; leopard tracking on every drive; open-air dinners; the family's own airstrip.
- Three MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection; holds five-star standing.
The neighborhood

- The Sand River and its leopards, below the decks.
- Skukuza airport, about an hour and a half by road; the Londolozi airstrip, on the property.
- Johannesburg, an hour by scheduled flight to Skukuza.
