A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because the people behind Awasi in the Atacama have traded otherworldly desert for otherworldly mountains with results that are more than satisfactory: villas that are humble, almost minimal, from outside and simply extraordinary within — total comfort, zero extravagance — and a private guide and vehicle for every villa, so nobody follows a group schedule at the end of the earth.

  • On a private reserve on the eastern edge of Torres del Paine; independent house.
  • Twelve villas with a guide and a four-wheel drive to each; hot tubs and wood stoves; the peaks from every window; all-inclusive with expeditions and transfers.
  • Three MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection; holds five-star standing.
  • Blond wood and geometric forms outside, under a low polar light; half rustic warmth, half modern polish inside.

The neighborhood

Golden hour over Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine

The national park of the granite towers and the Paine massif, with the lodges at its eastern edge and by the Salto Chico. It takes in Lago Sarmiento, Lago Pehoé and the Grey glacier, the base of the towers hike and the W trek, guanacos and condors; the Salto Chico lies at its heart.

  • The Paine massif, from the villas.
  • Lago Sarmiento and the park's eastern gate, minutes away.
  • Puerto Natales, about two hours; Punta Arenas airport, about five.
