A sense of the place

Why it's in the collection

Because it is the farthest south of the collection, on the rim of Huvadhu – one of the largest natural atolls in the world – with a house reef running the whole way round the island, reached by domestic flight and boat rather than by seaplane – and it holds four-star standing, listed at exactly the tier it holds.

  • On Hadahaa in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, in the far south of the Maldives, by domestic flight to Kooddoo and thirty minutes by speedboat; a Park Hyatt resort of Hyatt.
  • Villas on the beach and over the water, with a house reef around the whole island – three hundred and sixty degrees of it.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star 2026 for the hotel.

The neighborhood

First light over Dhaalu & the Southern Atolls

Dhaalu & the Southern Atolls

The atolls south of the Ari and Malé groups, further from the airport and quieter for it. Dhaalu is forty-five minutes by seaplane. Far to the south, across the One and a Half Degree Channel, Gaafu Alifu lies on the rim of Huvadhu, one of the largest natural atolls in the world, reached by domestic flight to Kooddoo. Two of the twenty-four hotels are here.

  • Huvadhu, one of the largest natural atolls in the world, around the island.
  • Kooddoo and its domestic airport, thirty minutes by speedboat.
  • The equator, a little further south, beyond the atoll's southern rim.
