Four Taj hotels are in the Stanza collection, in four destinations. One holds five-star standing: the Taj Lake Palace, a white marble summer palace of the 1740s on Jag Niwas island in Udaipur's Lake Pichola. Three are four-star addresses, labeled as such: an all-suite house beside Buckingham Palace, an island on one of the largest lagoons in the Maldives and a tower in Dubai's Business Bay with the Burj Khalifa in its windows. Where are the Taj houses of the collection, from Lake Pichola to Buckingham Gate?
In four destinations, one house in each. Rajasthan: Jaipur & Udaipur — on Jag Niwas island in Lake Pichola, in Udaipur, reached by launch from the City Palace jetty. London: on Buckingham Gate, beside Buckingham Palace, with St James's Park a few minutes' walk away. The Maldives: on Emboodhu Finolhu in South Malé Atoll, fifteen minutes by speedboat from Velana International. Dubai: in Business Bay, on Burj Khalifa Street, a few minutes from Dubai Mall.
What does each Taj house here keep of its own?
The Lake Palace, built as a summer retreat to catch the breezes off the lake, has rooms around a courtyard with a lily pond, suites with balconies over the water and dining and room service around the clock; 51 Buckingham Gate is all suites, with butler service, a Jiva spa and the restaurants of the neighboring St. James' Court; the Exotica sets its villas on the beach and over the water and keeps a Jiva spa; and Taj Dubai keeps Bombay Brasserie, its Indian restaurant, a Jiva spa and a rooftop pool with the Burj Khalifa in view.
When is each Taj house at its best?
The Lake Palace from October to March, Rajasthan's season of dry days and cool nights, with Diwali in the autumn — or from July to September, when the monsoon turns the Aravalli hills green and the lakes fill; the Exotica from November to April, the dry season of the Maldives, with calm seas and the clearest water; Taj Dubai in the winter, from late October to April; and 51 Buckingham Gate in late spring and early autumn, or from November, when the lights of Regent Street and Bond Street carry London to Christmas.
