Regent hotels in two destinations

In two destinations, one hotel in each. On the Côte d'Azur, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, the Belle Époque landmark of 1911 on the Croisette in Cannes, with its twin cupolas on the seafront and the Palais des Festivals along the promenade. In Hong Kong, Regent Hong Kong at 18 Salisbury Road on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, beside the Space Museum and the Cultural Centre, with the island skyline across the harbor and Central ten minutes away by Star Ferry.

Each was admitted on its own merits, one hotel at a time, never by brand. What the two share is a building the city already knew: in Cannes, the Carlton reopened in 2023 after two years of restoration with a new garden wing and pool behind the house; in Hong Kong, the 1980 landmark came back as a Regent after its own restoration, with the lobby and its bar on the harbor's edge and Lai Ching Heen and Nobu on the restaurant floors. Both hold five-star standing.

It depends on the destination. Cannes is at its best from May to early October – the Festival de Cannes in May fills the Croisette and those two weeks are booked early – with September the quiet, warm month of the sea. Hong Kong belongs to October, November and December, clear and dry; Chinese New Year, in late January or February, closes rooms around the harbor for a week, and the summer is hot and under the typhoon watch.
