Four Prince Hotels houses are in the Stanza collection; two hold five-star standing. They span two destinations: one in London and three in Tokyo. Prince Hotels is the hotel arm of the Seibu group, with its home ground on the old estates of Tokyo – Takanawa, Shiba Park, Kioicho – and one house abroad in Marylebone. Two of the four hold five-star standing; two are four-star addresses listed at exactly the tier they hold.

In Tokyo, three: Takanawa Hanakohro, the Japanese-style inn inside the 1930s garden of the Takanawa estate above Shinagawa Station, which holds five-star standing; The Prince Park Tower Tokyo, at the foot of Tokyo Tower in Shiba Park; and The Prince Sakura Tower Tokyo, in the Takanawa garden estate a short walk from Shinagawa Station – the last two four-star addresses, listed as such.
What distinguishes the Prince Hotels houses in the collection?
Each was admitted on its own merits, one hotel at a time, never by brand. What they share is ground: the Takanawa garden with its cherry trees and its inn, Shiba Park under Tokyo Tower, and in London a house that brought Japanese rooms, TOKii at table and The Malt Lounge to Marylebone. The inn at Takanawa is the smallest and quietest of the four; the towers are the large houses of their districts.
When is the best time to stay at a Prince Hotels house?
It depends on the destination. Tokyo fills for the cherry blossom from late March into early April – the Takanawa garden and Shiba Park are two of the places it is seen – and again for the autumn colors into early December; Golden Week and the year-end close what is left. London is at its best from May into September and quiet in January and February, with the Christmas weeks apart.
