One holds five-star standing: The Okura Tokyo, the 41-story Prestige Tower of 2019 that rebuilt the Okura of 1962 in Toranomon and kept Yoshiro Taniguchi's lobby. Two are four-star addresses, labeled as such: the seventeen-story Heritage Wing beside it, a house of its own, and The Okura Prestige Bangkok, on the upper floors of Park Ventures on Wireless Road. Where are the Okura houses of the collection, from Toranomon to Wireless Road?
In two destinations. Tokyo has two, side by side in Toranomon, beside the American embassy and below Ark Hills, with the Okura Museum of Art in the grounds and Toranomon Hills ten minutes on foot: The Okura Tokyo, in the Prestige Tower, and The Okura Heritage Wing Tokyo. Bangkok has one, on Wireless Road at Ploenchit, steps from the Skytrain station, five minutes on foot from Central Embassy and ten from Lumpini Park.
How do the two Okura houses of Toranomon differ, and what does Bangkok add?
The Okura Tokyo, in the 41-story Prestige Tower, keeps the recreated lobby of 1962 — the lanterns, the plum-blossom tables, the wall of the old house — with a 25 m pool and a Club Lounge on the 37th floor; the Heritage Wing, seventeen stories beside it and rated in its own right, has larger rooms with steam saunas in the bathrooms and a lounge of its own, with the Okura's pool and spa next door. In Bangkok, The Okura Prestige takes the upper floors of Park Ventures, with an infinity pool cantilevered over the center and Elements on the restaurant floor.
When are the Okura houses at their best?
Tokyo for the cherry blossom, from late March into early April, when rooms go weeks ahead, or in October and November, with the clearest skies and the autumn colors into early December; the winter, cold, dry and bright, is the quietest time in the hotels. Bangkok from November to February, the cool and dry season; March and April are the hottest months, with Songkran in mid-April.
