New Otani hotels in Tokyo

In one destination, Tokyo, on one estate in Kioicho: Hotel New Otani Tokyo Executive House Zen, the hotel within the hotel on the top floors of the Garden Tower with its own lounge and check-in and the garden below the windows, which holds five-star standing; and Hotel New Otani Tokyo The Main, the main building opened in 1964 for the Olympic year, with more than thirty restaurants and bars around the garden, a four-star address listed as such. Akasaka-mitsuke station is five minutes on foot; the Imperial Palace moat fifteen.

Each was admitted on its own merits, one house at a time, never by brand – and here the two share the garden that came before the hotel: four hundred years old, with a waterfall and a red bridge, laid out for a daimyo's residence long before the towers rose around it. The Main is the large house of the Olympic year with its restaurants around the garden; Executive House Zen is the quiet house at the top of the Garden Tower with its own door.

Tokyo fills for the cherry blossom from late March into early April – the New Otani garden is one of the places it is seen – and again for the autumn colors from late November into early December; Golden Week and the year-end close what is left. May and October bring the clearest days, the summer is hot and humid, and the winter is cold, dry and the quietest time in the hotels. The rates shown are mid-season.
