Three EDITION hotels are in the Stanza collection; all three are four-star addresses, labeled as such. They span three destinations: one in London, one in Barcelona and one in Abu Dhabi. EDITION is the brand Ian Schrager — co-founder of Studio 54 and the man credited with the first boutique hotel, Morgans, in New York in 1984 — created with Marriott International in 2007; the first EDITION opened in 2010, and The London EDITION opened in 2013 in the former Berners Hotel, a restored Edwardian building on Berners Street in Fitzrovia, just north of Oxford Street, with Schrager's lobby, Berners Tavern and the Punch Room. The Barcelona EDITION followed in 2018, beside the Santa Caterina market between the cathedral and El Born, with Schrager's pared-back rooms, a pool on the roof and Bar Veraz; The Abu Dhabi EDITION opened the same year on the Al Bateen marina at the western end of the island, a few minutes from Emirates Palace, with three restaurants, a rooftop pool and a spa. When is the best time to stay at an EDITION hotel?
It depends on the destination. London belongs to late spring and early autumn — May, June and September — with the Chelsea Flower Show in late May, Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon at the turn of July taking the rooms months ahead; July and August are the warmest and busiest months, the weeks before Christmas the fullest around Oxford Street, and January and February the quietest. Barcelona belongs to spring and autumn — April to June and mid-September to October — with the sea still warm into early October; the Mobile World Congress in late February or early March takes the rooms of the city months ahead, summer is hot and humid with the night of Sant Joan on 23 June lit with fireworks along the shore, La Mercè around 24 September brings four days of processions and fireworks, and November to March is mild and the quietest stretch for the hotels, the Christmas weeks through 6 January apart. Abu Dhabi runs on its winter, from about October to April, with the Grand Prix weekend at Yas Marina at the end of November or the start of December and the weeks from mid-December through the New Year taking the rooms first; from June to September the heat is the fact of the day, when the hotels are at their quietest.
