They are pool villas in the Maldives' Baa Atoll, with a restaurant below the lagoon and an observatory above it; a Thai-inspired lagoon resort on the east crescent of Palm Jumeirah, its over-water villas facing the Dubai skyline; and Anantara Siam, behind its tropical gardens on Bangkok's Ratchadamri Road. In three destinations, one house in each. The Maldives: in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, thirty-five minutes by seaplane from Velana International. Dubai: on the east crescent of Palm Jumeirah, on its own beach, with Atlantis, The Palm along the crescent. Bangkok: on Ratchadamri Road, steps from the Skytrain station, five minutes on foot from the Erawan Shrine and ten from Siam Paragon.
What does each Anantara house here keep of its own?
Kihavah puts one table below the surface — SEA, the underwater restaurant and wine cellar — and one above it, SKY, the overwater observatory, among pool villas on the beach and over the water, with Hanifaru Bay and its mantas in season by boat within the atoll; The Palm keeps over-water villas and lagoon pools in the Thai style, with the Anantara Spa; and Anantara Siam keeps the hand-painted silk ceilings of its lobby, its tropical gardens and Biscotti on the garden side.
When is each Anantara house at its best?
Kihavah from November to April, the dry season, with calm seas and the clearest water — or from roughly May to November, when the plankton brings the mantas into Hanifaru Bay; The Palm in the Dubai winter, from late October to April; and Anantara Siam from November to February, the cool and dry season, before the heat of March and April and Songkran in mid-April.
