A sense of the place

First light over Positano & Praiano

Why it's in the collection

Because the Sersale family turned their palazzo above the beach at Positano into a hotel in 1951 and have kept it ever since – La Sponda at its table, Franco's Bar on the terrace – and it holds five-star standing.

  • The Sersale family's palazzo in the middle of Positano, a hotel since 1951 and still in the family's hands; independent.
  • La Sponda, the restaurant, is lit by four hundred candles at dinner; Franco's Bar is the terrace over the bay. Seasonal: the concierge confirms the opening dates for your stay.
  • Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star 2026 for the hotel; holds five-star standing.

The neighborhood

Golden hour over Positano & Praiano

Positano & Praiano

The western end of the coast, where Positano and Praiano hold three of the nine hotels. Positano's houses are stacked down the hillside to the Spiaggia Grande and its pier, where the boats to Capri leave. Praiano lies a few minutes east along the coast road, quieter and facing the sunset.

  • The Spiaggia Grande and the pier for the boats to Capri, down the steps.
  • The church of Santa Maria Assunta and its majolica dome, below the hotel.
  • The Sentiero degli Dei, the cliff path above Praiano, by car to the trailhead at Bomerano.
